Unreal plugin

Installing, activating and updating Exaro Studio, and fixing the problems people most often hit.

New here? The five-minute getting started guide is the quickest way in. This page has the details.

Install from Fab

  1. In the Epic Games Launcher, open Fab Library, find Exaro Studio (Free or Pro) and click Install to Engine for each engine version you use.
  2. Open your project, go to Edit → Plugins, search for Exaro Studio, tick it and restart the editor.

Fab installs the plugin into the engine, so every project on that engine can enable it. Updates arrive through the launcher.

Install from exarostudio.com

  1. Sign in at app.exarostudio.com and download the build for your engine version from Account → Downloads.
  2. Close Unreal Editor and unzip it into your project's Plugins folder, so the path is MyGame/Plugins/ExaroStudio/ExaroStudio.uplugin.
  3. Open the project and click Yes when Unreal asks to enable the plugin.

To update, close the editor and replace the Plugins/ExaroStudio folder with the new download.

Activate (exarostudio.com licenses only)

Open Window → Exaro Studio License, paste your license key and click Activate this machine. Activation is checked once and then verified locally, so the plugin keeps working offline. Without a license the plugin runs free: chat and every read-only tool.

Bought Exaro Studio Pro on Fab? There is nothing to activate; owning it on Fab is the license. The License window just confirms the edition.

Engine versions

Unreal Engine 5.5, 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8 on Windows. UE 5.7 and 5.8 get the full tool set. UE 5.5 and 5.6 get the core tools (actors, Blueprints, materials, audio, UI, input, gameplay abilities, networking, play-testing and packaging); animation authoring, Niagara, Sequencer, PCG and a few other families need 5.7 or later.

Enabling Exaro Studio also enables the engine plugins it builds on, such as Niagara, Enhanced Input, Paper2D, Gameplay Abilities and Common UI. They all ship with Unreal.

Your games can ship with it

The gameplay classes Exaro places in your levels (characters, pickups, doors, HUD, save system and more) live in its runtime module, which packages into your game like any other plugin code. The editor tools and the AI connection never ship in a packaged game.

Send to project

With the plugin running, the studio's Send to project action at app.exarostudio.com imports an asset straight into the open project instead of downloading it. It arrives on the target skeleton with the right axis and scale, so Mannequin animations play without repair work.

Troubleshooting

No Exaro menu under Window

The plugin is not enabled in this project. Tick it under Edit → Plugins and restart.

The AI answers with an error

Check your API key under Edit → Editor Preferences → Plugins → Exaro Studio, and that your provider account has credit.

It says a change needs the full edition

You are on the free edition from Fab, which can inspect but not edit. Subscribe from pricing, then install the full plugin into your project: how to upgrade from the free edition.

Send to project is greyed out

The editor must be running with the plugin enabled. Both have to be true.

Activation returns no token

The key is valid but our signing service did not answer. Retry, and if it persists contact [email protected] with the time of the attempt.
